Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Louvre’s opening hours?

The Louvre is open every day except Tuesday. On Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday the museum opens from 9 am to 6 pm. On Wednesdays and Fridays it stays open late until 9:45 pm. The last entry is one hour before closing and visitors are asked to begin leaving the galleries 30 minutes before the museum closes.

How can I buy tickets?

Timed entry tickets should be purchased in advance to guarantee admission. You can book tickets online from our ticketing page. Some dates may sell out quickly, so we recommend planning ahead. Tickets are nominative and cannot be modified or resold.

Who is eligible for free or reduced admission?

Admission is free for visitors under 18 years of age and for 18–25 year‑old residents of the European Economic Area. Free entry is also available for disabled visitors and their carers, teachers of art, and journalists. Reduced rates apply to certain workshops, guided tours and auditorium events.

What items are prohibited in the museum?

Large bags, suitcases and umbrellas must be left at the cloakroom. Weapons, sharp objects and other dangerous items are prohibited. Photography is allowed without flash, tripods or selfie sticks.

Can I re‑enter the museum once I leave?

No. All exits are final and re‑entry with the same ticket is not permitted. Please ensure you have visited all the galleries you wish to see before leaving.
